Due dates are a guess, so the chain allows for it

Most babies do not arrive on their due date. This chain has a link for the due date itself, then 7 extra links marked +1 to +7 for the days after it. If the baby comes early, take the rest of the chain down together and keep a link for the baby book.

The big-sibling list gives the older child a part to play: pick a toy for the baby, help pack the hospital bag, practice whisper voices, make a welcome sign. Put the baby's name, or "Baby", in "Counting down to".

Counting from early in pregnancy? Switch to one link per week for a short chain.

    Questions people ask

When should a big sibling countdown start?

For toddlers, the last two to four weeks is plenty. Older kids can manage 60 days or more. For a longer wait, use one link per week.

What if the baby comes early?

Celebrate and take down the rest of the chain together. Keeping a link or two for the baby book is a nice touch.

What if the baby is late?

The 7 extra links marked +1 to +7 come after the due date link, so the countdown keeps going. Change the number of extra links under More options.

What jobs can a toddler do?

Simple ones: pick a toy for the baby, draw a picture, help fold tiny clothes, practice holding a doll gently. Paste your own list if your child has other jobs.

Can I count weeks of pregnancy instead?

Yes. Pick "week" under One link for each. Each link shows how many weeks are left until the due date.
